what is the difference between tallow and lard?

tallow and lard are both rendered animal fats, but they come from different animals.  our tallow is specifically from regeneratively pastured cows and bison.  lard is the rendered fat from pig.  for our products, we only use the kidney fat from both animals, which is regarded as the purest and highest quality fat found on the animal.  the kidney fat from a cow is called suet and the kidney fat from a pig is called leaf lard.

Animal Fat and Skincare

Animal fates have long been a source of skin protection and healing that our human ancestors have utilized and cherished for thousands of years.  It has only been in the midst of the plant oil propaganda, spawned by highly mechanized farming proactices that our modern culture began leading us away from these traditional uses of animal fats both internally and externally.

Traditional wisdom around tallow is being confirmed by science, and specifically related to skincare in naturally occurring hight stearic acid and saturated fat content.  Interestingly, tallow is typically 50-55% saturated fat just like that of our skin cell membranes.  The word "sebum" actually means tallow in Latin.  We only work with the highest quality fats and are in direct relationship with the people that care for and tend the animals and land they live on.
